Why it's worth checking out

Richmond Arms Hotel is a historic place to stay in the centre of Richmond, combining a grand sandstone setting with modern comforts. Established in 1827, the hotel offers colonial-style ensuite accommodation and a strong connection to the village’s past. Its original Lennox Arms Hotel building was destroyed by fire in 1888; the Commercial Hotel was later built on the site and renamed the Richmond Arms in 1972.

Accommodation is provided in The Stables, the only surviving section of the Lennox Arms Hotel. These former stables have been renovated with contemporary furnishings while retaining the character of the original building. The units — named Gin, Convict, Vine and Wheat — include bathroom facilities and can accommodate couples or families of up to four guests, making the hotel a practical base for a short heritage stay in Richmond.

Guests can spend time in the Bistro Lounge, which serves hearty meals, snacks, daily specials and a children’s menu. The food offering draws on Tasmanian produce, with fresh seafood, Tasmanian meats and cheese grazing boards made with local produce among the house specialities. There is also all-day Devonshire tea from 11am, with fresh coffee and locally made country cakes. The wine list includes local selections from the surrounding Coal River Valley, while the bar features 10 beers on tap, Riversdale Estate wines and a range of local spirits.

For a more relaxed evening, the Saloon Bar has wine, beers and ciders, along with a pool table, jukebox, TAB and Keno facilities. The bar is open daily from 11am, with lunch and dinner service offered across the week. The combination of accommodation, dining and casual bar spaces suits travellers wanting a convenient stay, couples exploring Richmond, and families looking for rooms and food options in one historic venue.

Richmond Arms is also well placed for exploring the town on foot. Richmond Bridge, Australia’s oldest surviving arch bridge, and the Richmond Gaol are among the nearby historic landmarks, while the village’s Georgian buildings, galleries, museums, shops and boutiques are within walking distance. Set among the vineyards of the Coal River Valley, Richmond is about 20 minutes from Hobart Airport and 25 minutes from Hobart’s CBD.

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.0 from 1,124 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
