Eagles Nest Retreat is a collection of private spa villas in Tasmania’s North West, set beneath Mount Roland and about 55 minutes from Cradle Mountain. The property is built around space, privacy and a slower pace, with mountain views, open landscapes and clear night skies forming much of the experience. It suits guests looking for a romantic break, a wellness escape, a family country stay or a base for exploring the region.
Each accommodation option has its own character. Eagles Nest I combines Tasmanian timbers, Huon pine, Blackwood, Ben Lomond granite and work by Tasmanian artists, while Eagles Nest II brings together design influences from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America. Eagles Nest III has a more rustic finca-inspired feel, with stone and timber, a large fireplace, two bedrooms, a modern kitchen and views towards Mount Roland. The Loft is a secluded studio hideaway above the Skyview Barn, reached by a private skybridge and surrounded by a tree fern forest. The website says it is booked exclusively, with no other events or guests in the barn below during a stay.
Wellness is central to the retreat. Depending on the villa, guests can use indoor or outdoor spas, including the mountain-view jacuzzi at Nest I, the lakeside spa at Nest II and the large bathroom spa at Nest III. Other named services and experiences include in-villa massages, yoga, private chef dining, outdoor fire areas and proposal, romance and wedding packages. Nest III also offers a more hands-on farm setting, with opportunities for children and adults to collect fresh eggs, meet lambs and rabbits and possibly spot native wildlife. These details make the property suitable for couples wanting seclusion, as well as families seeking a quieter rural stay.
The retreat grew from Des Brown’s long-held vision for sharing the views and rural landscape of the family property. After decades of dairy farming, he developed the first Eagles Nest, with support from his wife Dianne, and the business is now run by Des and his daughter Sheree. The surrounding area provides plenty to do beyond the accommodation: Sheffield, known as Tasmania’s Outdoor Art Gallery, is described as a seven-minute drive away, while the broader North West offers wilderness, scenic drives, lakes, wildlife, food trails and access to Cradle Mountain. Weddings and elopements are also part of the retreat’s offering, with options ranging from intimate stays to larger gatherings.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.6 from 117 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
