Wrest Point is a large waterfront hotel and entertainment venue in Sandy Bay, Hobart, around five minutes from Salamanca. Its accommodation is centred on the iconic tower, with standard and modern deluxe rooms overlooking the River Derwent, kunanyi / Mount Wellington or Hobart City. The views are a clear draw, while free visitor parking makes the property practical for both overnight guests and people visiting for a meal, show or event.
Dining covers a broad range of occasions. The Point Revolving Restaurant sits 17 floors above the Derwent and pairs French-inspired cuisine with 360-degree views, making it the most obvious choice for a special occasion. Longhorn Smokehouse offers American-style smokehouse cooking with a Tasmanian focus, while Kwan Ho serves Sichuan, Shanghainese and Cantonese food, including locally sourced Tasmanian seafood. For something more casual, Boardwalk Bistro has indoor and outdoor seating on the foreshore promenade, and Boardwalk Café provides coffee and light snacks by the water.
The bars add several different moods to the precinct. Birdcage Bar is set up for lingering drinks, cocktails, high teas and small bites, while The Green Room combines drinks, light bar snacks and music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Casino Bar looks across the River Derwent from beside the gaming floor, and Boardwalk Bar is a smaller spot near the bistro with screens, beer and app-based TAB service. The casino itself offers table games, gaming machines and betting, with dealers available to explain the basics to newcomers.
Wrest Point also works as an all-in-one base for gatherings, with accommodation, restaurants, bars, function rooms and event facilities on the same site. Its event offering spans conferences and exhibitions, workshops, meetings, training sessions, gala dinners, fundraisers and social celebrations, with spaces ranging from smaller work areas to large seating areas. That makes it suited to travellers wanting views and several on-site options, couples planning a memorable meal, and groups that need accommodation, dining and event space together. Solo visitors can also choose between a quiet waterfront coffee, a meal, live music or the casino, depending on the occasion.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.1 from 5,909 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
