Why it's worth checking out

Mandala Bruny Island Accommodation is a restored historic timber holiday home in private bushland near the water at Alonnah on Bruny Island. Overlooking the D’Entrecasteaux Channel towards the Hartz Mountains, it offers a quiet base for exploring southern Tasmania while keeping you close to the island’s waterfront and local facilities. The property is around a 15-minute walk or three-minute drive from Alonnah, with its beach, jetty, boat ramp and Hotel Bruny Restaurant.

The self-contained home has three to four bedrooms and sleeps up to 11 people. Its open-plan kitchen and living area is designed for shared time, with a wood-fired heater, Smart TV with Netflix, sofas and a large front window framing the channel and mountain views. The dining table extends to seat 12, while the fully equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave, electric oven, induction cooktop and a range of small appliances. There is also a full bathroom, an additional toilet, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi and a portable cot and high chair for younger guests.

Outside, a spacious deck provides room for barbecues, outdoor dining and quiet mornings among the trees. A separate games shed has table tennis, a bar fridge and its own deck, while the cubby house includes toys and space for children to play. The property sits on 12 acres of private bushland, with a path leading about 30 metres to the water’s edge and direct access to the waterfront and foreshore track. Wallabies, echidnas and native birds are frequent visitors, including white wallabies mentioned by the property.

Mandala suits families and groups of friends looking for a comfortable shared stay, with enough space for children and several cars or boats. It can also work for a couple seeking a secluded break, with the wood heater, views and peaceful setting creating a more intimate feel. Bruny Island activities are within reach, including cycling on the track opposite the property, fishing near the Alonnah jetty, bushwalks, historic sites, local food producers and the Pennicott Cruise. Cloudy Bay surf beach is about a 30-minute drive away, while the Alonnah Jetty boat ramp is around five minutes by car.
