Why it's worth checking out

Hundred Acre Hideaway is an adults-only retreat on South Bruny Island, set across 100 acres of rainforest, bush and meadows with views towards Cloudy Bay and the Southern Ocean. The property is designed for a quiet, self-contained stay, with two well-appointed hideaways that run on solar, wind and gas. Each has a private hot tub filled with fresh mountain water, ready for guests to enjoy on the deck while taking in the changing skies and surrounding wilderness.

The setting is remote and peaceful, but there is plenty to do without leaving the property. Five bush trails pass through bluegum forest, manfern glades, pepperberry and blackwood valleys, while a four-hole bush golf course offers a more leisurely way to explore. At dusk, wallabies, potoroos, pademelons and possums emerge around the property. The south-facing position is also suited to watching the Southern Aurora when conditions allow, adding another reason to spend time outdoors after dark.

Food is part of the Bruny Island experience. Guests receive complimentary pantry provisions, including basics for preparing meals, and can arrange pre-ordered hampers delivered to their hideaway. Options include a breakfast hamper with bacon or smoked salmon, eggs, bread and seasonal greens; island and pasture dinner hampers with Tasmanian wine; and a romance hamper with sparkling wine, chocolates and candles. There is also the option of cooking a barbecue or local platter at the retreat, while the island’s producers, vineyards, oyster bar, cheese maker and other food stops provide plenty of opportunities for daytime exploring.

Charlie and Paul live onsite and look after the property while welcoming guests. Their hideaways suit couples seeking privacy, a restorative solo escape or adults wanting a slower base from which to explore Bruny Island’s food, wine, walks, fishing, surfing and cruises. This is not a family-oriented stay: the accommodation is specifically intended for adults, with the appeal centred on seclusion, nature, comfort and long stretches of uninterrupted quiet.

Spot Score

The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 29 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
