Charlie's Dessert House

Charlie's Dessert House is a Launceston destination built around desserts, sweet drinks and the pleasure of taking a little longer over something indulgent. The menu covers plated desserts, waffles and crepes, shareable options, cold drinks and hot drinks, with the front counter as the place to order. It suits an afternoon coffee, a planned dessert stop or a relaxed catch-up when a regular café snack is not quite enough.

The dessert menu has plenty of familiar comfort food alongside more elaborate combinations. Banoffee Pie pairs a biscuit base and caramel centre with whipped cream and banana, while Sticky Date comes with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. Other options include Golden Syrup Dumplings, Lava Cake with either a pistachio or chocolate centre, Tir am igato with espresso and vanilla mascarpone, Apple Crumble, and a traditional Banana Split. There are also waffles and crepes with toppings such as Nutella and strawberry, pistachio and Nutella, Biscoff, stewed apple or berries and granola.

For something designed to share, the Fondue for Two comes with chocolate dip, fruit, brownie bites, waffle and marshmallows. The Waffle Share Plate combines waffles with Nutella, strawberries, banana and vanilla ice cream. The menu also includes brownies, cookies and brookies with different toppings, including options such as raspberry, Ferrero hazelnut and S'mores. Drinks range from milkshakes, thickshakes and smoothies to iced coffees, matcha drinks, crafted sodas, iced tea and a selection of hot coffees and teas. Belgian Hot Chocolate and Spanish Latte offer alternatives for a warm, sweet drink.

The business opened in 2016 after founder Brooke Saward turned a childhood dream of running a dessert shop into reality, influenced by her love of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and travels that included learning to make macarons in Paris and trying baklava in Turkey. Brooke later sold the bakery to her parents, Tania and Kent Saward, and the family continued working in the business. Since 2025, Charlie's has been owned by Aly and her family, with her children Kade and Billie and other relatives part of the close-knit team. That family continuity remains central to the story, making Charlie's a natural choice for date-night desserts, a shared treat with friends or a solo coffee and sweet stop in Launceston.
