Bruny Island Lodge is a remote South Bruny retreat set on 860 acres of bushland above Oyster Cove on Mickey’s Bay. The rustic timber chalet is designed for shared stays rather than a conventional short-stay room, with five bedrooms, four bathrooms and five toilets accommodating up to 24 guests. Its position gives visitors a private connection to the surrounding landscape, including access to the coastline and the sheltered waters of Mickey’s Bay, which are suited to fishing, paddling and other water-based activities.
The lodge is particularly well equipped for extended families, groups of friends, corporate retreats and organised events. A commercial kitchen supports self-catering for large groups, with the option of arranging a local caterer, while the bar and games room provide a social centre indoors. There is a billiards table, table tennis, air hockey, a soccer table game, video games, a stereo with Bluetooth and chip-and-putt golf. A central cast-iron fireplace adds a winter gathering place, and the walls can be opened in warmer weather to bring more of the scenery into the room.
Outside, a timber deck wraps around the building, providing seating and views, while a commercial barbecue, outdoor fireplace and fish-cleaning station extend the gathering space into the landscape. Guests also have access to private walking tracks and several areas to sit and relax, including a fire pit when weather permits. The combination of indoor games, bush tracks and nearby water makes the property practical for groups with different interests, whether the plan is to stay in, explore the island or spend time together around shared meals.
Sustainability is a central part of the lodge’s operation. It is an off-grid, solar-powered property, and food scraps and green waste are composted through a large worm farm. The operators also describe ongoing work to protect and manage the surrounding land and its native flora and fauna. Wi-Fi is available, although pets are not permitted. With its scale, facilities and secluded setting, Bruny Island Lodge is best suited to guests looking for a self-contained group base in nature, including families, reunions, retreats and multi-day walking, wellness or paddling programs.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 5.0 from 22 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
